The Studio’s 2014 Contest Winners!
We had many great’ entries for the contests we held on The Studio that it was so hard to choose when it came to the jury’s choice!
A Grand Jury winner was chosen for each contest. These three talented individuals’ receive $500 in store credit for Fabrics-store.com and the beautiful’ Tiffanyâ„¢ Heart Tag Pendant from Tiffany & Co.!
For the Fashion Design contest, the grand jury winner is…
Aaron wins our Fashion Design contest for his clever all linen family ensemble.’ ‘ Stylish, well tailored, presented with thought. Well done Aaron.
“SIMPLY COVERED IN PURE LINEN
Featuring a range of original designs for the entire family crafted entirely from Fabrics-store 100% linen in a variety of weights, patterns and colors.”
For the Re-enactment Costume contest, the grand jury winner is…
Carol R’s meticulously hand-stitched Colonial outfit. Apart from the immaculate precision, what drew us to this entry is that its different from everything else we have seen in the contest.
“Blue linen riding habit and striped waistcoat with pewter buttons using all natural linen fabrics. IL019 Blue Bonnet linen with IL020 light blue linen for the lining. I used a Rocking Horse Farms pattern and all visible sewing is hand stitched.”
For the Interior Design contest, the grand jury winner is…
Marena showed us what linen can add to a modern environment. It was great’ to see not just the draperies, but also’ to appreciate the setting, without which linen’s beauty is lost.
“Functional Top-tack pleated draperies and roman shades with IL019 Optic White.”
And here are the contestants who’ received the highest popular vote, winners of $500 in store credit for Fabrics-store.com:
For the Fashion Design contest, Daisy won with her beautiful gown:
“This dress was inspired by Waterhouse’s Miranda the Tempest painting. Constructed with historical influence and made of two 100% linen dress layers, this gown is made for a true Preraphaelite beauty. Modeled by customer Dominique.”
For the Re-enactment Costume contest, Nicole won with her well tailored’ renaissance costumes for herself and her partner:
“This a heraldic cotehardie and fighting tunic for His Grace Valharic and myself. The other side of my dress is black with gold embattled hem, a medusa head and a snake winding down my left arm. Valharic has the knightly virtues embroidered on his.”
For the Interior Design contest, we have a surprising and interesting winner. Kira won with her incredible Viking-style laundry basket, with dragon-head supports!
“Viking Laundry Basket realized in medium weight green linen. Dragon supports are adapted from the Oseberg Find tent poles hanging over one of the ships at the Viking Ship Museum in Oslo. Spectacular yet surprisingly easy to draft and carry out.”
Congratulations to all of our winners, and a huge thank you to everyone who participated in our contest! I hope you’ll enjoy spending time at The Studio, chatting with fellow designers and sharing your creations, and keep your eyes peeled for our next contest.

Whoa, I must be out of the loop; I thought the picture was of a refugee family. My bad. I guess it takes all kinds to make a world.

I agree, I thought that is what I was looking at too. Shocked to say the least. That was a lot of sewing though.
