You can access the multi-sized printable PDF tank pattern by following this link HERE.
Please note that you’ll also need to cut three continuous strips of fabric on the bias 1.5″ wide: one for the neckline (26″ long) and two for each armhole (24″ long). For more instructions on how to cut your fabric on the bias please follow this tutorial.
If you need help adjusting the pattern for a fuller bust, we have a great Full Bust Adjustment tutorial HERE.
Steps
Note: Prewash your fabric and tumble dry it until it is still slightly moist, dry in room temperature. Iron the fabric so it is easier to work with.
1. Pin your shoulder seams right sides together.
2. Sew at a 3/8” (1 cm) seam allowance and trim the raw edges to 1/4″ (6 mm).
3. Serge or zigzag the raw edges together to prevent the fabric from fraying. Press the serged/zigzagged seam allowances up towards the back of your tank.
4. Bind the neckline following this step-by-step tutorial HERE.
5. Now pin the side seams right sides together.
6. Sew the pinned edges at a 3/8″ (1 cm) seam allowance. Then trim to 1/4″ (6 mm), serge/zigzag the raw edges together and press towards the back of your tank.
7. Bind the armholes using the same method as you’ve used for the neckline (see step # 4). Join the ends at the underarm.
8. Lastly, finish the hem by folding the fabric twice to the wrong side: first 3/8″ (1 cm), then another 1/2″ (1,5 cm). Press and pin.
9. Working from the wrong side, topstitch the hem as close to the folded edge as possible. Press.
Give your tank one last good press and you are all done!

Hello, can anyone tell me where the grainline is on the pattern? I can’t seem to find it. Thanks ?
I seemed to have printed the wrong version of the pattern, there’s nothing written inside the pattern pieces except the size indications.
Florence Aylward
I assumed the grainline was intended to run parallel to the fold lines on each pattern piece.
Claire O'Tuathail
Thank you so much Rima for this pattern, so easy to download pattern for printing and the instructions are super easy to follow. I love that you include a link to how to make the bias tape. I made mine out of a crisp white linen table cloth and used home made baby pink and white ditsy floral bias tape for the neck and armholes. I did a one size up size grading from the bust to waist and it turned out so well. The initial plan was for this to be a toile but it is so gorgeous, I will be wearing this all summer. I plan to make many more of these.

Okay – the tank top (and several other patterns) look great – but I need darts, seriously, as my bra size varies between 46DDD/F or even G, depending on where I’m shopping, I do look good in designs that have no darts or some other type of shaping. Maybe shoulder princess line or fabric gathered to some kind of yoke as a dart substitute, but something. Are there any full bust adjustment instructions on the website for your patterns?
Pam Erny
Just go to YouTube and put ‘full bust adjustment’ in the search box.
You’ll get countless how-to videos.

Bias tape question – I have not yet watched the tutorial. It sounds like there are instructions for making the bias tape there? Am I correct? Or is there another tutorial?
I have never made bias tape before. Want to have all my resources gathered before starting.

I have just completed 6 of these tank tops.1 in cotton, and 5 in linen. I do have pictures if you’d like to see them. When I did mine my hand, I used all French seams, and then used colorful bias binding for the neck and armholes. Not seen when wearing. Also, as I am just slightly larger then the pattern, I made the simple adjustment and I love these so much!!!
Miyoung Schuler
I just completed 2 of these tops last night. I am a very beginner sewer and this was my first ever wearable project. I’m so thrilled! They were really easy to put together and I learned so much. Definitely a perfect beginner’s project.

This tank is so darn comfortable, I made another one in the unbleached linen. My thought was if it was too see-through that I could dye the tank but it really isn’t too sheer in my opinion. Yes, you can see I’m wearing a bra but that’s it. I was wondering though, is there a hack to add short sleeves to the tank? I’d really like that.
Ellalou Zirblis
I just made this top today with IL019-Signature Finish Black and I love the pattern. It is so fast and easy to make and super comfortable.

Do you have instructions on how to add a keyhole closure to the back?
I’ve successfully created a “franken-pattern” to merge the 4/6 with the 8/10 with a small bust dart adjustment using the FBA tutorial. I’m struggling to avoid small puckers when I bind the neck and armscyes, so will need to make (yet another) muslin before the real thing.
Lauren Linen
We sure do Sandra! Here is the link to that tutorial:
https://blog.fabrics-store.com/2016/09/16/how-to-sew-a-button-loop-tutorial/
Best of luck with your neckline and armscyes. If you’re working with our linen, you may like to stay-stitch these areas prior to adding the bindings to ensure they haven’t stretched out of place and lay nice and flat when sewing.
Anneli Suomi
I ,made this tank in white linen from Blackbird Fabrics and it turned out beautiful! I first tried size 4/6 (according to my measures), but it was way too tight. Thankfully I made a muslim, so I didn’t waste my good fabric! I then made size 8/10 and the size is spot on, I added side slits to allow more movement and style and made a deep hem instead, making the tank shorter. I also serged the seams before sewing together to avoid bulginess at the seams, especially when you add the binding. I love how my tank turned out, and I will be trying the linen pants pattern to go with it for a perfect summer outfit!
Thank you for a great pattern and instructions:)
Note: I noticed someone having had trouble aligning the shoulder seams, I had a bit of a same issue, but once I pinned the seams and sewed 3/8 seam allowance as indicated, it ended up ligning up just fine.
Joyce Ward
I made this is size 0-2. I cut it on the bias, and made a very narrow French seam at the shoulders. Now I find that I can’t get my head through the neck hole. Not even close.
I’ve done the bias binding already so don’t think I can put a slit in the back with a button loop at this point. Should’ve tried the neck hole before binding it.
Seriously – does 0-2 neck hole fit over anyone’s head? Never thought my head was freakishly large.
Lauren Linen
Hello Joyce,
We’re sorry you had some trouble with the fit of this pattern. You may still be able to add a slit to the back without unpicking your whole bias binding. Perhaps you can unpick the back a little to make a slit.
Michelle Park
Hello, which trousers/ pants is the model wearing with the Linen Tanks? Thanks
Allison Dey
There are no templates in the pattern download. What a waste of time. There’s a photo and instructions on Adobe Reader and a measurement guide, but NO TEMPLATES. Is this some sort of scam to get people to sign up?
Lauren Linen
Hello Allison, the instructions about adobe reader will guide you in opening the pattern files. When you have your pattern open in adobe reader, open the ‘attachments’ panel or menu, and you will find the pattern files there.
If you would like assistance finding the attachment, please see our tutorials at the link below or send us an email via our website.

Hi Allison,
No, it’s not a scam (user error, I’m afraid!). Follow the instructions on how to access everything you need in Adobe reader.
Perrine Baudin
My shoulder seams don’t align and I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. It’s making me feel completely insane haha. Is this normal? It doesn’t look like it from the pictures and I haven’t seen anyone comment on this but everything seems fine on my end, test square measurements and all…
If someone has a solution to this… Thanks!
Lauren Linen
Hello Perrine,
I’m going to send you an email so we can get this figured out 🙂
Lana R
Hi, seems that I am having the same problem. Have you figured out why?
Lauren Linen
Hello Lana, I didn’t get a response from Perrine. I’ll send you an email and see if we can check on what happened here.
Kim Minnis
Is this pattern cut on the bias? I’ve seen a couple of remarks that make me wonder.
Kim Minnis
Never mind. I found my answer below! Thank you for the free pattern!

I recently made this tank from some left over fabric from another project as a toile. I’m sure it was less than a meter. I needed to do a seam up the back, but this was totally fine. I modified the pattern by doing my first ever addition of bust darts to a dartless bodice and it worked out beautifully. I also lowered the front neckline by 2 inches, which is perfect. The only negative is that the arm holes are quite tight. I will amend this next time I make this pattern as it is such a good one! I need more in my life! Thank you again or these wonderful free patterns.

Can you tell me what cup size the pattern was graded for? My FBA adjustment didn’t work as expected, so I’m thinking I need to account for te pattern’s cup size but can’t find that info. Thanks!
Lauren Gates
Hello, Our patterns are drafted for a B cup up to a size 16, then drafted for a D cup 🙂
aphrodite atlas
This looks like a great pattern! Where should I add length to the body? I know “at the natural waist” is the best place but that’s not marked on either pattern piece. Thanks!
Lauren Gates
Hello Aphrodite Atlas, due to the Phoebe Pattern’s simple A-line shape, you can add a lengthen and shorten line 4-6″ above the hem, so long as it doesn’t interfere with any pattern markings or armholes 🙂 This adjustment is great if you need some extra room in the torso. If you’d like more length to cover your hips, you can lengthen a few inches from the hemline. This adjustment is great if you need to cover your hips and if they are a little larger than the hem circumference of the pattern.
If you’d like some extra assistance, please feel free to email us: ask@fabrics-store.com

I may have missed this, but I was wondering if there is any instruction on the cutting layout for this pattern? I am newish to digital patterns and a cutting layout suggestion is always helpful, especially since I treasure the linen I buy from you all and don’t want to mess up. Can this tank be cut on the bias as well?
Lauren Gates
Hello Larissa, In order to keep our free patterns small and easy to download, we don’t include fabric layouts. But this pattern is very easy to layout on your fabric. You can fold your fabric in half with the selvages meeting, and lay your pattern pieces along the fold of this fabric. You can then open up your fabric to cut the three bias strips.
The tank can be cut on the bias as well, however, we recommend making a trial as armholes tend to need to be a touch longer and/or wider for a comfortable fit. When you cut on the bias, the small amount of stretch that was built into the armholes for a straight grain cut is removed.

I printed thi pattern out in early spring hoping to make one before summer. Alas, time was not in my favour. The pattern sat printed in my sewing room for months. This afternoon I sat with teh taped together PDF pages and measured myself: bust fits the size 16/18 pattern, waist was right in the muffle of the 16/18 & 18/20 size, and hips are the size 12. I opted to proceed with the 16/18 size.
My personal adjustments:
– I chose not to cut a bias tape
– I did a small seam and folded over twice then top stitched for the neck and arm scyes
– left the side seams open until arm scyes were stitched
– made no adjustments to pattern for sizing
– used 4C22 bleached white, not softened
Thoughts:
The pattern was easy to use and follow. I am glad to have used this as my first foray into following a linen-intended pattern for a linen product. The linen was easy to work with. Upon trying on the garment (which I did at many intervals) I believe i will use my hip curve ruler in the future to add a minor waist shape and also add another inch to the length. I found it will sit immediately at my belt which is a bit short for me. I look forward to trying this pattern again with a softened and lighter weight linen as well. For now, the 4c22 version will make a great staple addition to my fall wardrobe.
Lauren Gates
Thanks so much for your detailed review! I’m sure this will help many others with their project too 🙂

I just finished my 6th phoebe tank in Silver Lake Blue. I lowered the neckline slightly, added a seam down the front & used French seams. I love this pattern & fabric!

Ugh the first tutorial linked to this page on how to cut on the bias and make bias tape shows double fold. I did not have a bias tape maker so I spent over an hour folding both sides in on my bias tape only to watch the next tutorial on how to apply it and see that I really only needed to fold it in half. Please correct your tutorial links because I am not the only person who had this issue. It sucks to waste time & energy making double fold bias tape by hand only to discover that it was not necessary.
Elizabeth Hafner
I had this same issue. I just spent a couple of hours making bias tape by hand and am still not sure which tutorial is correct. Should I be following the neckline or bias tape tutorial?
Emily Browning
Is it supposed to be single fold or double fold bias tape? I think thats where I messed up.
Christina Bratcher
Apparently after watching the second tutorial it is only supposed to be single fold bias tape with a raw edge to match to the raw edge of the shirt. You did not mess up you just didn’t watch all of the tutorials before you started working as did I. I was wondering how 4 seams & a hem were going to take me 3-4 hours, well its because of the bias tape for sure.
Patti Romero
I made this from muslin first and found that the armholes are a little too small. Today I made one with the IL019 bleached linen and cut the armholes down about 1/2 in the armpit and then just tapered that to zero at the shoulder seam so that the shoulders are the same as the pattern as printed. I also did lower the neckline by about 3/4-1 inch so there is a slightly lower scoop. I love how it turned out.
Patti Romero
Actually I just noticed that I have on the muslin tank in my profile picture even though you cant really see it very well. Love the fit of this pattern of the few others I have tried which were boxy-er.
Sofia Buchler
How did you find the PDF to print? I cannot find a printable pattern anywhere
Filipa Marques
Hi, I am not sure if you are having the same issue as I did, but try this:
download the pattern, open it in adobe reader. In the Adobe Reader menu click – View -Show/Hide- Navigation Panes – Attachments. Adobe will pop-open a panel on the left side with the attached file and you just double click on it. Then, you can also download this attached file right clicking on the file and selecting something like “save attachment”, and you get the actual pattern in a “independent” pdf file.
Delia Pinto-Houbrick
You are right, I downloaded adobe and follo directions, but no luck. I think I’m going to try making it from the trapeze dress. Any thoughts?! Thanks
Delia
Linda Sharp
I couldn’t get this to download on my iPad, but it worked perfectly on my computer.
Cynthia Fiekers
I would like to lower the neckline too. Did you just cut evenly all the way around????
Rebecca Seidman
I just made this tank top – thank you for providing a beautiful pattern with QUALITY instructions. I’m stoked with how it turned out. I’ll be trying the Augustina top and Oona dress next.
PS – I sized up to 16-18 (usually 12-14) to fit me while in my final weeks of pregnancy and it is a perfect fit.
Camille Dupeyroux
Hello ! First of all thank you so much for this free pattern, I am a beginner and giving it a try !
I have never made or used bias tape before, could you tell me if 1.5 inches should be the final measurement of the tape after folding or is it the measurement to which I need to cut it (then final size should be half of 1.5 ?)
Thanks a lot for your help !
Sarah burt
I believe you cut your strip tp 1.5”, fold in half and press!
Helga Bush
The pattern is hard to get to. The HERE link goes to the home page. But I found the icon and “Download Tutorial” link at the bottom of all of the pictures. So, that link does go to an Adobe file. BUT the pattern is not attached to it. There are no attachments when I use the paperclip icon. Please fix this! Summer is upon us — we have even had days in the 90s already. This looks like a great shirt!

I found the link after a wandering search through the website: https://fabrics-store.com/sewing-patterns/phoebe-linen-tank-pattern
Samantha Chiappetti
Hello,
I wanted to make this tank as a quick sew. Unfortunately, it did not end up that way. I am not sure if it’s user error or the pattern. I cut out the size I would need based on my bust measurement, but both the head hole and the armholes are far too small. Since it’s made with a non-stretch fabric, I’m not even able to pull it over my head. I was able to make a loop with a button in the back (followed the instructions for the Linen Tee, with some tweaks), and I made the armholes deeper. It ended up fine, but was not the quick sew that I was hoping for and that’s advertised.
Did anyone else have issues, or is it just me?

I made this tank top. It fits well except is a little tight across the shoulder blades when I flex my back. When I make another, what is the best way to alter the pattern to improve the fit ? Thank you.

Loved your linen tank pattern! The tutorials on self bias tape and pattern assembly were on point. I made mine out of your softened medium weight natural linen and it’s so soft. I love it. I modified the length into a tunic, added patch pockets and some embroidered details. Made some palazzo pants for an ensemble. Now I’m not sure whether I want to wear it out to dinner or jump into bed in it. Either way, it’s a dream to wear. Thanks!
Debbie Murray
Thank you for the pattern! Are there cutting instructions? Are both pieces face up? Best way to cut the bias tape from the remainder of one yard? Sorry, beginner here. Thanks!
Taryn Yamane
So glad I made 4 of these tank tops in different Fabrics-Store linen colors in time for summer weather. It is my favorite “go-to” top when the weather is warm and a great way to use up fabric when you have just one yard of the material. Thank you for the great pattern and tutorial! I always look forward to the projects that you post and have learned so much from your site.
Fay
I’ve decided to make my own bias after all your instructions are very clear.
Rima Khusainova
This is great, Fay! Once you’ve learned how to do it, you won’t need to buy ready made bias tape ever again!
Fay
I bought the bias tape instead and mistakenly bought the 2 inch bias tape does it make a difference?
Rima Khusainova
Hi Fay! You mean the 2″ bias tape maker, right? In any case, I think it’ll be too large, unfortunately, for binding the neck and the armholes. Such wide bias tape is usually only used for voluminous quilts etc. If I were you I’d go back to the store and exchange it for the 18mm or 1″ one.
Fay
Thanks very much. I am in the process of making the Linen Morocco Pants right now to go with this top. I am looking forward to wearing them together.
Wanda
I cannot for the life of me get the pattern. I have tried for hours. Can someone just send it to me via email?
Barbara
I’m not sure what I need to do to download the patterns so that I can use the Adobe functions. I downloaded the tank and opened with my adobe reader but I still don’t see the pattern intself, just 4 pages of info and instructions. And also, the trapeze dress – I got the whole pattern but I can’t see how to use the layers to get just my size
Catina
Hello Barbara… let me see if I can help you. Could you let me know what type of device you are using? Meaning if it is a desktop pc or mac… or a mobile device and what type. If you are launching Adobe Reader and opening the PDF file into Adobe…. the printable pattern is included as an “attachment”. With the Adobe desktop app, the “paperclip” icon should show up to your left. In mobile apps, you may need to use the “more” menu to find it (sometimes called the “hamburger menu”). The defaults on what program opens with PDF files can vary from one device/platform to another- this is why I suggest launching the Adobe program FIRST, and then using the FILE: OPEN menu to bring in your pattern. If your computer/device is set to open PDF’s in a browser window or any other program or “preview” mode- it is not actually opening in Adobe Reader (even though you have Adobe Reader installed on your computer). For layering, once you have opened the PDF pattern, the sizes are listed in the “Layers” panel in Adobe reader. There is a tick box next to each size for you to be able to turn that size “on” or “off”. I haven’t looked at the Trapeze in a while, so I’m not sure if that one was “layered” or not. Unfortunately I do not know if I can post screenshots here in blog comments… but I can with our “Customer Service” platform ask@fabrics-store.com. I hope this helps… feel free to let me know if this does not solve your issue. 🙂 -Catina

Pebby
I would love to get this pattern, also what weight linen would I use for this one when the pattern is available? I love LInen!
Rima Khusainova
Dear Pebby! So sorry for the inconvenience, the pattern will be available again really soon, we just need to update a few things first. To answer your question about the weight – the best fabrics for this tank would be lightweight or medium weight, depending on the season.
Leah
I think there is something wrong with the pattern link — when you click it, you are not taken to the pattern for this tank. I would love to make it though!
Rima Khusainova
Dear Leah, yes, we are working to fix it, the pattern should be available again really soon. We apologize for the inconvenience. Maybe you could check some other tutorials we have while you wait? 🙂
Monette Pangan
I clicked on the pattern link but the page that pops up doesn’t include this particular one.
Susan
Love this tank top. It is simple, but fits nicely. For years I have been working outside in the brutal South Florida heat and wearing nothing but the simplist of tank tops and elastic waist pants made from your linen. The material helped me survive the heat, but the clothes I made were simply utilitarian. Now, with your simple but stylist patterns, I will branch out and try a few new things. Thank you for offering these patterns to use with your yummy linen.
Rima Khusainova
Dear Susan! Thank you so much for this nice comment! We are so happy to hear that you like our tutorials and can’t wait to see what you’ll make! Happy sewing!
Paulette
I shop the “doggie bags” section. Even with the shipping and exchange rate the price is better than I can find for the same quality linen here in Canada. And thank you for this pattern – it’s exactly the tank top I’ve been looking. I’m shaped pretty much like the model so it fits me perfectly, and printed just the size I needed with no problem!
Rima Khusainova
Thanks so much for your feedback, Paulette! So glad to hear you liked the pattern.
Denise
I’m considering doing the same, only to the EU. I can’t find linen for under $15 a meter. And, the selection is limited. Even with the 20% import tax it seems it might be a better deal, not to mention all the colors and weights are so yummy!
Kristin Bodman
Sorry but I am small with a large bust. This does not fit me !!!!!
Rima Khusainova
Dear Kristin, we totally understand you problem. This is why we offer this pattern in multi-sized printable version with a possibility to do a Full Bust Adjustment to accommodate a fuller bust. Please check our FBA tutorial HERE that will guide you through the FBA process.

Lovely pattern. How do you do a major FBA on it to make it work for women with busts?
Rima Khusainova
Dear Becky, it’s very easy! Just follow our step-by-step tutorial HERE that explains the FBA process in detail.
Donna
Great pattern and love that it is free. Followed the directions and it was right there for the printing. Thanks again!
Rima Khusainova
So glad to hear it Donna! Happy sewing!

Super! So simple and so glad you included the fabric. Tempted to get some but the shipping kills me to Canada. Still love your site.

Me as well. Tempted to order from Canada, but exchange and shipping would be crazy 😜

Thanks so much for your kind words Marcy! And sorry about the shipping, unfortunately, the post costs are not up to us 🙁
