This summer I wanted to sew versatile pieces that are full of fun and color. I decided to start with two items I don’t yet own in my closet. The first is an Oversized Blouse and the second is a pair of Draped Palazzo Pants. We often have way more clothes than we need in our closets, so something I love to do is stretch the use of my clothing by keeping to key items I can easily pair up for an array of looks. Here are three ways I’ve styled my blouse to give you inspiration on how to wear yours.
I decided to make this Oversized Blouse because I go through phases where I wear the same two or three items in rotation. This blouse will be one of them. I made it oversized, with extra length so that it can be layered or worn as a dress or an oversized T-shirt. The neutral tone of PRISTINE Linen is a great choice of color for this, it will never be too much.
This look is perfect for a picnic on a hot day or that barbecue poolside occasion. I paired it here with an asymmetrical colorful skirt. This skirt is very playful and I chose a colorful shoe and bag to add more fun. When you have an event or setting that doesn’t require you to be too formal but you still need to look your best, it’s a good idea to wear one item of clothing that is casual- this will add softness to your look. That way you are in between chic and relaxed.
For this look, I am on vacation mode. I am in a flowy linen pant (which by the way is the pant from the AKIRA Pattern here on fabric store) I did a trick here with one of the sleeves on the top that I often do with oversized blouses and dresses. I tucked the sleeve edge into my bra strap to shorten the sleeve. Because the linen is a nice lightweight 5oz, it gave the short sleeve a soft airy look. When you are on vacation and would like to recreate this look, you can never go wrong with linen or bright colors. These two neutral tones are perfection together. The outfit has such a relaxed and carefree vibe.
Here I’m ready for a festival or concert, these events usually call for stepping outside your comfort zone and trying something new. This can be achieved with what you already have and all you need to do is use things you have in a non-traditional way. At a festival or concert or any party, you should look relaxed and comfortable but it doesn’t have to be boring. I created this mini linen skirt some years ago and I added two invisible zippers at the sides to add interest to my layering. The oversized blouse is perfect because it makes for a cute overlay mini dress. Since festivals are a busy place and I there is likely to be lot’s of walking, I chose a comfortable chunky boot and a tiny crossbody bag that carries only what I need yet is still stylish.
