Baby Harem Pants
Here’s a very easy sewing tutorial that will only take you a couple of hours but will fill you with joy of making something for your baby. We are going to make a pair of harem pants with IL019 Natural Softened linen. The medium weight fabric is both great for hotter days, and slightly cooler months ahead. It allows air to circulate and makes it easy for your baby to crawl everywhere. Its balloonish shape is perfect for diapered babies and I just love how soft and natural this fabric feels on the skin. This is probably the easiest and the most useful pair of pants that I have made for my son. These are also a big hit with the girls as his cousin demonstrates.
Difficulty: Beginner
Time: 1 to 2 hours
Materials: ½ yard of IL019 Natural Softened
Notions: scissors, pins, safety pin, thread, Tailor’s chalk, 0.75” elastic, sewing machine

Note: Seam allowances are included in the pattern and are 1/2″ 
1. Print out the pattern, tape two pieces together, and cut.
2. Pin the pattern onto the folded fabric and cut.
3. Pin two right sides together and sew backstitching at the beginning and the end.
4. Now you need to finish the waist and the legs. Just fold up the fabric ¼ inch and press. Then fold up another ½ inch for the legs and 1 inch for the waist and press. Pin and sew.
5. Don’t forget to leave an opening in your waist hem for the elastic band.
6. Attach the elastic band to a safety pin and drag it through the opening in the waist. Choose how tight you want it to be and then sew two ends of the elastic together and cut the rest. Machine-stitch the opening closed.
That’s it, your pants are ready! Try them on and see how cute they look.

Absolutely adorable and so easy! I make a version of these pants for my 9 month old grandson. At first my daughter said “linen, Mom, really”, but once she realized how easy it is to throw them in the washer and how great they look all wrinkled, she wanted more! For those of you who would prefer snaps along the inner seams, (easier when you ned a diaper change) it’s easy to do that, too.
