Sol Pattern: One Step Closer to Find the Perfect Trouser
How often do I talk about my “perfect trouser” mission? Hopefully not too much because the journey continues. The perfect trouser is one that is balanced and hits all “the boxes” (you can read about the start of my journey here)…and guess what? The pants view of the Sol Pattern is one step closer. The Premium Pattern is a three piece set, but I was focused on the pants view for this project.
The Sol Pants have this leg shape that’s just… chef’s kiss. And the sizing? It’s like they read my mind. I’m seriously considering combining the best parts of this pattern with others to create the ultimate pair of pants. Think of it as a ‘best of’ album, but for trousers.
The All-Purpose Linen in the medium weight continues to be my go-to- especially if I don’t have a project in mind. It’s the perfect middle ground if you love the color, but don’t have a project in mind. It’s the ideal weight for both bottoms and top patterns, which makes it easy to pull from your stash for versatile project planning. The medium weight linen taught me a lot about the importance of fabric choice in the outcome of a sewing project- I expected these to be more casual and sort of shapeless. Instead, the stiffer hand allows the pants to feel chic and structured, without being too stuffy. It feels very chic and tailored. The rich color Crimson added a level of sophistication to the pants that I hadn’t anticipated.
The instructions and included diagrams make these pants a breeze. And guess what?! I installed my first EVER invisible zipper with no issues! Thank you Fabrics Store for walking me through something I have avoided for years haha. The pants came together intuitively and although I didn’t make the top version, I know it would have come together easily.
In my mission for the perfect trouser pattern, I’ve come across many that have their merits, but the Sol Pattern has stood out for its impeccable balance of style and comfort. It’s a pattern that doesn’t try too hard to impress but does so effortlessly- no pockets (someone might be gasping right now, lol), and shaping using darts.
The idea of combining the best elements of different patterns to create the ultimate trouser pattern is an exciting one. It’s like being a chef in a kitchen, mixing ingredients to come up with a new recipe. The Sol Pattern pants have provided a solid base, and now it’s time to experiment with different ‘toppings’ to see what masterpiece I can create.
I’m reminded of why I started sewing in the first place. It’s not just about the end product; it’s about the process, the learning, and the joy that comes from making something with your own hands. The Sol Pattern pants are a testament to that joy, and I’m eager to see where this journey takes me next.
So, stay tuned, because the search for the perfect trouser pattern is still on. Who knows? The next project might just be the one that brings it all together.
