Warlene Rene Styling Tips: Linen Blouse in Angora Three Ways
This past summer I wanted to sew versatile pieces that are full of fun and color. I decided to start with two items I don’t yet own in my closet. The first is an Oversized Blouse and the second is a pair of Draped Palazzo Pants. We often have way more clothes than we need in our closets, so something I love to do is stretch the use of my clothing by keeping to key items I can easily pair up for an array of looks. Here are three ways I’ve styled my blouse to give you inspiration on how to wear yours. The neutral tone of Angora Linen is a great choice of color for this, it will never be too much.
This look is perfect for a picnic on a hot day or that barbecue poolside occasion. I paired it here with an asymmetrical colorful skirt. This skirt is very playful and I chose a colorful shoe and bag to add more fun. When you have an event or setting that doesn’t require you to be too formal but you still need to look your best, it’s a good idea to wear one item of clothing that is casual- this will add softness to your look. That way you are in between chic and relaxed.
For this look, I am on vacation mode. I am in a flowy linen pant (which by the way is the pant from the AKIRA Pattern here on fabric store) I did a trick here with one of the sleeves on the top that I often do with oversized blouses and dresses. I tucked the sleeve edge into my bra strap to shorten the sleeve. Because the linen is a nice lightweight 5oz, it gave the short sleeve a soft airy look. When you are on vacation and would like to recreate this look, you can never go wrong with linen or bright colors. These two neutral tones are perfection together. The outfit has such a relaxed and carefree vibe.
Here I’m ready for a festival or concert, these events usually call for stepping outside your comfort zone and trying something new. This can be achieved with what you already have and all you need to do is use things you have in a non-traditional way. At a festival or concert or any party, you should look relaxed and comfortable but it doesn’t have to be boring. I created this mini linen skirt some years ago and I added two invisible zippers at the sides to add interest to my layering. The oversized blouse is perfect because it makes for a cute overlay mini dress. Since festivals are a busy place and I there is likely to be lot’s of walking, I chose a comfortable chunky boot and a tiny crossbody bag that carries only what I need yet is still stylish.

I love this look. Is there a pattern for the blouse? I’d love to make it for an upcoming trip.

I always enjoy your posts, Warlene. I have to admit I would have NEVER thought to tuck a sleeve under my bra strap – GREAT IDEA! I’ve tucked the front hem underneath my bra band before. Before you know it, I’ll be all tucked in like a fitted sheet – ha!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and your style with us,
Annette

Thank you Annette! My favorite thing to do is play with things and see how different they can look. I actually think that’s so cool about what you do with the hem. I gotta try that. Thanks for reading and sharing.

Well, I can’t take credit for the hem idea, but I thought it was a good one, too. I saw some girl … I think on YouTube, do that. One of those, “Why didn’t I think of that?” moments – ha!

Why do some of the pics show one long sleeve and one very short sleeve? Can you describe how you did that ? Are they two different blouses ?
Jerilyn Winstead
Oh I just found the info – very cool idea!
Warlene Rene
Hi Jerilyn, what I did was tuck the hem edge of the sleeve into my bra strap. Thanks so much for reading.

I’m going to echo everyone else! I would also love to get my hands on the pattern for this blouse. I love the versatility of top, dress… whatever I feel like on any given day. With slightly more length, this would carry me to work as well. Thanks for a great read, and will watch for pattern information! Fingers crossed!
Warlene Rene
Hi Krista. I agree with it all. Let’s see how soon this can happen. It’s a matter of when not if. It would definitely be so that it can be a dress as well. Thanks so much
