FABRIC REVIEW: Cotton Percale Kids Pyjamas
When I received the new cotton fabrics from fabric-store, I thought, what a pity that they were not yet available a year ago when I was pregnant, I could have sewn so many beautiful textiles for my nursery. Nevertheless, these fabrics are perfect to make clothing or bedding for children of any age, the cottons are incredibly soft and pleasant!
I decided to sew matching pyjamas for my daughter and son made of pink and blue gingham cotton percale. The fabric is weightless, you can easily make either bed linens or pyjamas out of it, it does not electrify, as it’s components are natural fibres, which is an important factor to consider when choosing fabric for sewing sleep accessories, especially for children!
For pajamas, I used a pattern of Harriet & Hugo Pyjamas bought at Etsy in the Townmouse store, for pants, I decided to use another pattern from the designer Florachildandco called Sage pants and used bleached signature finish linen fabric from fabric store. I added some hand-embroidered elements to the collar to give the garments a unique feature- for my daughter a squirrel, as recently she’s become so keen on them she keeps insisting I catch one for her in the forest! For my son, I decided to add a whale, and since he doesn’t speak yet, I can’t know for sure wether he’s keen on it!
Percale will make excellent bed linen, blankets, crib bumpers, pyjamas, nightgowns. I also trialled some muslin, I think people may already be familiar with properties of this fabric, it is as soft as a feather. Bed linen, diapers, blankets, bibs for babies can be sewn from it, it perfectly absorbs moisture, so you can also wrap yourself and your baby in muslin towels. I made a blanket out of two muslin fabrics, initially intending them as a blanket, but then one day I used it as a towel for the baby after his bath and now it’s his favorite towel! In addition, these fabrics can be used together with linen, and they will perfectly complement each other. For example, you can sew a plaid on one side using muslin, and on the other a light-colored linen (so that the muslin does not shine through), this can hardly be found in the store! If someone is expecting a child in your environment, products made of these fabrics will serve as an ideal gift in this case!

What cute clothes for the little ones and the fabric looks so soft. I’m sorry that I don’t have little ones around any more. Keep up the great work.
