AMI Pant Pattern in FS MEADOW Midweight Linen
Making my first pair of trousers was very intimidating. I’ve made pants before but always with a clean waistband and side zipper. I wanted to challenge myself to make a more tailored pant. When I saw AMI Pattern I wanted both the pants and shorts. I especially love the gathered detail at the waistband, it gives a softness to the other tailoring elements of the pants.
AMI Pant Pattern in FS MEADOW Midweight Linen
I chose to use FS Midweigtht Linen in MEADOW. I love this tone and the coolness of the shade. The first thing I did was carefully read the instructions to make the assembly easier and more enjoyable. Although the instruction booklet was very easy to follow, I also watched videos on making welt pockets. The pockets are actually a breeze if you transfer your markings correctly, however, what I do recommend is using chalk that shows up clearly and doesn’t disappear easily on your fabric.

The thing I love most about this pant is how it can work for so many occasions. Work, dinner, and meetings. I styled it here to be meeting ready. I love how polished and regal the the look is. It’s also a good addition that I consider a staple.

I wanted a little more flare at the waistband and leg, so I went up a dress size at the waist and hip area, which made the gathering at the waistband more prominent, adding softness to the pants. This is a pattern that will be in rotation just because of its versatility and the various length options. Once again another Fabric-Store pattern that doesn’t disappoint.

I see that you have experience as a pattern-maker. I am a smaller, petite person, so the amount of fabric in the legs would feel enveloping to me. I like the pattern from the hips upward, but do you any suggestions for a fairly novice sewer on how to slim down the leg width of these pants? I appreciate your input. Have a wonderful summer.
