Note: Prewash your fabric and tumble dry it until it is still slightly moist, let this dry in room temperature.
1. Iron the fabric so it is easier to work with.
2. The diagram shows the color layout for the cushion pattern. You will need to cut 8 X Triangles (4 in each color) and 1 X 21.75 inch (55cm) Square out of IL019 Natural Softened. You also need to add 3/8 inch (1cm) of seam allowance along all seams.
3. Pin the diagonal lines of each pair of triangles together. (One of each color in a pair) Sew along the seam allowance and press.
4. Place the sewn squares together and lay them out as instructed. Making sure the colors are laid out so it looks like a pinwheel.
5. Next, sew two squares together to create a rectangle. Repeat with the other two squares. Press all the sewn seams.
6. Sew the two rectangles together and press the centre seam.’ It’s very important to make sure both sides match and your triangles create a pinwheel. Check on reverse.
7. With the wrong side of the patterned side facing you, pin it together with the back of the cushion along 3 of the side seams, leaving an opening for the zip. Sew the seams together and press it. Trim the corners to reduce fabric excess.
8. Following this tutorial, pin and sew the zip onto the remaining opening of the cushion. Even though the zip is a visible zip, we have chosen to use the method of sewing on an invisible zip.
9. To ensure the zip ends remain within the cushion, turn the tape of the zip downwards and sew along this edge.
10. Turn your cushion inside out onto its right side and you have just created your very own pinwheel cushion.
