One of the questions I get asked the most is: What’s your favorite hat pattern?

And since Christmas is looming alarmingly close around the corner, I thought I might spice things up today. Instead of showing you one project, I’ve decided to show you a selection of awesome hats I’ve made over time – because who doesn’t love a knitted hat for Christmas?! (rhetorical) And since not everyone loves a classic hat, I’ll show you some cute alternatives. So today it’s maybe less reading, and more watching.

Let’s start:

The Classic Hat

As I just mentioned – not everyone loves a classic hat – I’m not everyone. To be honest I just started wearing hats again beginning of this year. I didn’t think they suited me. But in every knitter’s life there comes the day where you think ‘Oh, I could knit a hat’ because you have some leftover yarn. So you start, knowing you will look like an egg wearing your hat, but you keep going because what else could you do with 1 1/2 skeins? Yeah. Been there – done that.
And then I found the Stockholm Hat from Petite Knit. I still think I look a bit like an egg wearing it – but at least an egg with very warm ears. No – I’m joking, I really enjoyed knitting it. The only challenge could be the Italian cast-on, but once you mastered it (or just changed it to your go-to cast on method) its a walk in the park. And because I love this hat so much, I made my son one as well.

The Ribbed Hat

This hat is tighter than the Stockholm hat, but also very nice. I made this one for E. dad, but as E. loves the color so much (and I didn’t have the time to knit him his own yet) it’s more or less his now. And I made one for his baby as well to complete the matching outfit. (And I don’t want to praise myself, but I think it turned out so cute!)

The Big One

Well, what can I say – is there anything better than a One-Skein-Project? I don’t think so. And this one is one of my favorites. I love the playful look and its probably the fastest knit I ever made. Nothing more to say, just do it.

The Beret

You probably saw this one in my last article, the fabric review. Definitely not the warmest piece if you wear it like I do, but very cute. If you make a gauche that fits it should fit over your ears. I actually even made one and decided, that I wanted it a bit smaller and to show my ears as I really love that look (don’t ask me why).

The Balaclava

This is probably one of the most modern pieces you could knit right know. They are everywhere – and if they are not, they should be. Not only do I love the way they look (CUTE), they are so practical! Hat and scarf all in one – heart what more do you want?! Especially if you don’t like scarfs – like me. (Wow – not liking hats and scarfs – but lives in a country known for skiing and cold winters. I am great.) And guess what – I made one for E. as well. This actually could be a great indicator – If I make one for my son, then it must be reeeeeally good.

The Kid’s Hat

Last but not least – the kid’s hat. And one of the biggest reasons why this is my absolute favorite hat pattern for E. is because you can close it under the chin. And this is very important when you have a little tornado like I do. And he can wear it under his helmet when he’s out with his new scooter. And It looks adorable, what can I say.
