My Favorite Seven Patterns, Perfect for Linen
When I first started sewing garments, I immediately fell in love with linen. I loved how it wrinkled with wear and it felt very forgiving as I taught myself how to sew a straight line or maintain the same seam allowance throughout a pattern. So when I sat down to think of my seven favorite patterns that I feel are perfect for linen, it took me a while to choose just seven!
- Soline Shorts by Staystitch Pattern Company
These shorts are the perfect relaxed fit shorts/pants pattern with a paperbag waist, combining the comfort of loose fitting legs with a cinched wide waistband. These shorts have become such a staple piece in my wardrobe & feel amazing in linen for warm weather. Offered sizes: 0-34 (25-54″ waist, 35-64″ hip). - Calvin Crop by Jessilous Closet x Evan Ihde
This top has such a unique silhouette and can even be made reversible! Paired with linen, I feel like it combines a rustic texture to such a fun new shape. Offered sizes: 0-32 (31-57″ bust, 24-50″ waist). - Olya Shirt by Paper Theory Patterns
The Olya will always have a special place in my heart. While it may be considered a basic button up shirt, as you tackle construction, you quickly realize the techniques are well advanced and a lovely challenge that produces the most elegant shirt. Made in linen, it has become my go-to shirt to throw on when I’m on the go and want to be comfortable & cute. Offered sizes: 6-28 (31.5-56″ bust, 34-57.5″ hip). - Zina Shirt by Fabrics-Store
The Zina shirt is another classic button up with many simple details that make it a fantastic beginner pattern and introduction to button up basics sewing. I absolutely love my black linen Zina shirt and wear it on clinic floors and on light strolls outside. Truly the most versatile pattern! Offered sizes: 0/2-28/30 (33-56″ bust, 35-58″ hip). - Ella Dress by Silversaga Patterns
This dress is such an elegant & romantic pattern. I made my version in linen with a bleach block print design & it feels and looks divine. I think making Silversaga’s dresses in linen emphasizes just how timeless her pieces are. Offered sizes: 34-48 (31.5-48.8″ bust, 34.6-49.6″ hip). - Enderall Sews Saturday Shorts
These shorts are classic summertime shorts you throw on when you’re heading out to the beach or going for a bike ride. I loved playing with my linen scraps from Fabrics-Store and creating this fun colorblocked version. Sizes offered: 0-32 (24-49.5″ waist, 34.5-59.5″ hip). - Arthur Pants by SewLiberated
The ultimate elastic waist pants pattern that offers maximum comfort with a balloon leg style. I made these pants in a heavyweight linen & they are so fun to dress up or down depending on my day. Sizes offered: 0-30 (25-48.5″ waist, 33.5-57″ hip).
I think it goes without saying that linen is a pretty perfect fabric 🙂 But I do feel that it really shines in these seven patterns.

What a treasure trove of inspiration! I run an e-commerce business of linen dresses called Habibe London. I’m continually looking for fresh ideas to elevate our linen dress collection, and your thoughtful breakdown of each pattern has given me so many new design directions. Keep it up and i will look forward to your other article like that.
