A Matching Mother and Daughter Set in Airy Poplin
When I received an offer to try a new poplin fabric, I immediately turned my attention to the Mary Black print.
I imagined an airy delicate dress with a collar worn with comfortable shoes, boots or sneakers.
Cotton poplin is a lightweight, breathable, and comfortable fabric with a flat surface structure. In addition, cotton poplin is very durable and ideal for frequent use.
This versatile fabric is a favorite for both beginners and advanced sewers. It is also easy to care for.
Among the benefits of using poplin fabric is its low maintenance. Its natural resistance to wrinkles makes it easy to straighten out. (In my pictures I only washed the dress without ironing it).
I took the Anna Allen Anthea blouse pattern as the basis for the dress, I have long wanted to hack this pattern, as it is so versatile and allows you to play with it to make something you desire.
The fabric really uplifted the pattern, so the dress turned out to be much more beautiful than I expected. In addition, I added a removable collar with a frill (I used medium-weight linen in the color of Parchment), which made the dress even more interesting. And if you are not in the mood to wear a collar, you can easily take it off.
When I initially started sewing this dress, my standard needle kept missed stitches. I decided to research on Google and found a solution, I changed the needle to a needle for knitwear with a ball end and sewing became much easier and a more pleasant experience.
Unfortunately, right before the dress was finished I accidentally cut through the bodice of the dress from behind when I was processing the last seam on the belt with an overlock, it was very annoying, but I managed to close up this hole imperceptibly, fortunately it was small, about half a centimeter, and due to the bright colors of the fabric it was not at all it is visible, but nevertheless it was a pity to damage the dress literally at the last stage. It also happens to me sometimes, though infrequently, do such incidents happen to you?
Since poplin is so easy to care for, it’s a good choice for kids’ wear. Because it’s lightweight and easy to clean, it’s the perfect summer fabric.
Therefore, from the remaining fabric, I sewed a dress for my daughter, similar in design to mine.
I took the pattern of the dress D 54 from the designer Hello dear kids , I have already tried this pattern and I really liked this design, with knee socks and leather sandals-perfect for a hot summer day out!
For the collar, I used the same color and weight of linen as for my dress.
