Fabric Review: Faille Francesca Perfectly Pale
Doesn’t this name just feel so soft and sweet? The pattern and fabric are just the same. This Faille Francesca Perfectly Pale print is from the cotton floral collection Fabrics-store recently released. The print has soft pink tones, several shades of green, milky white, medium red-oranges and lovely yellow daffodils. The feel is lightweight but not too light weight or see-through and has a soft grosgrain texture. You could make something with a bit of structure or a flowy piece as well. It launders beautifully and did not require much ironing when I removed it from the dryer.
There are thirty of these floral print options to choose from. I recently made a shorts outfit for myself out of the Pablo Flowers in White. For this project, my lovely daughter Amanda agreed to be the model. Yes, if you were curious, she is very happy to have a mother who sews. She has been known to ask for last minute garments for events the next day or even the same day. I take it as a compliment to her view of my skill level but the answer is still no and we will stay focused on the story of this dress.
We think this fabric gives the feel of somewhere between “old Florida” and luau vibes, if the flowers were a bit more tropical. Either way, it is a very sweet print for the summer and Amanda wore her dress to a party at the St Petersburg Shuffleboard Club. A fitted straight dress with a slit would work. A three tier dress to spin to your heart’s content would work. I can even imagine this print in shorts and a top set for the summer. Very cute resort wear look. I encourage you to get creative and enjoy the season.
Amanda’s dress is designed on the fly by the two of us. You could make this dress. There is no pattern to share because we really just pulled together elements of inspiration here and there and then turned it into a tiered dress. The dress became a traditional sundress really. The top piece is the only part you need to structure to your size as the bottom is full and forgiving. If you have a dress or shirt pattern that you already like how the top fits, you could use this for the top tier. We cut that portion to just above the natural waistline. Then we followed with the two bottom tiers. I usually make each tier of the dress twice the width of the one above it for a nice gather. For example: If the bottom of the bust area ends up around 30 inches wide, the second tier would be TWO 30×15 inch rectangles seamed at the sides and the bottom would be TWO 60×16 inch rectangles seamed at the sides and half an inch for the hem. If you’re not feeling so bold as to just pull together a pattern, don’t worry, Fabrics-Store has three free sundress patterns right here on the blog! The Lucia, The Luna, and the Rhea. Shout out to their design team! Enjoy your summer. OX- Alisha
