‘Know Me Patterns’ Color-blocked Linen Set
Color-blocked. Wavy. Goodness. Enter the ME2033 sewing pattern from Know Me Patterns!
I’m Ella, also known as Handmade Millennial, the designer of this unique new two-piece set with asymmetrical wavy color blocking.
Know Me Patterns is a new venture by the folks at Design Group often known in the sewing community as the “Big 4” pattern makers (McCalls, Simplicity, Butternick, Vogue). Well, now the Big 5! Know Me is a new line of sewing patterns available in print online and in big box craft stores; it features designers of the sewing community, for the community. I was invited last year to be one of the founding designers of the line and ME 2033 is my second style with Know Me Patterns, available for the Spring 2023 season. It’s been such an honor to be able to bring my styles to the mass market and bring new, fresh styles for the sewing community.
The Wave Set, as I informally call it pattern number ME 2033, is a loud and fun outfit choice together, or great as individual pieces. It’s a pullover tank or cap sleeve crop top with a square neckline and barrel leg pants with side seam pockets and elastic at the back waistband. I have been inspired by mashing colors together and different shapes and ways to color block garments, especially with linens. The cover image is done up in Autumn Gold and Sahara Rose. It looks fantastic in all sorts of color combinations like the ones below from Fabrics Store linens!
I like to mix one bright color with one more muted or neutral color; mix a print for the contrast with a solid base color; or even mix different shades of a color together as the contrast options to one base color. There are a million ways to mix it! The effect is best when the contrast and main fabrics are two shades of the same type of fabric (like two medium-weight linens or two chambrays, or at least of similar weight.)
Happy sewing!

I was smitten with this pattern, especially the top. I found it at JoAnn’s, but didn’t find suitable fabric for color blocking (or have time to order here, as I wanted to wear the top NOW!). I did find a cotton stripe, and contrasted the top by having the stripes horizontal at the top/sleeves and vertical at the bottom. I love it! Do wish the pattern envelope specified fabric amounts to make the top and pants individually. I estimated and came out ok, then measured what I actually used for future reference.
