Check Out The New Cotton Options!
Have you seen that Fabrics-Store added cotton to their shop? With this exciting news, I decided to see what I thought of the quality and texture of these lovely floral prints. If you’re on the fence trying to decide if you want to try one, hopefully this review will help you. I jumped right in by choosing the Faille Pablo Flowers in White. This seemed like it would be a lovely opportunity to pair with a bright summery crop tank top or even pair with a swimsuit.
What can you expect from the fabric? The fabric is a really lovely middle to light weight cotton that would be great for dresses, shorts, pants and obviously for one of my favorites… the FS Zina Top! These floral cottons are all the same 4.4 oz weight and have a soft grosgrain texture. I always wash and dry my fabrics before starting my projects and the fabric laundered nicely and did not really need ironing/pressing after the fact. I feel that this fabric would lend itself to a large variety of projects and garments.
I am a long time fan of FS linen so finding a cotton that I am happy with is often a struggle. Occasionally, I’ve tried to work with cottons traditionally used for quilting and the weight and feel isn’t quite right for garments even if the print is so very cute. Or, I have tried to work with cottons that are so heavy weight that I hear my sewing machine let out a little cry for help. So if you’re hesitant to try these cottons because you’re in love with everything about the linens, I get it. I’m in love with them too but I also encourage you to try a garment or two with this new cotton because the beautiful linens will still be there for the next project and you’ll have added some very lovely variety to your wardrobe.
As I hinted above, I chose this particular print because of all the color in the print. The floral print is cheery and summery. I live in Florida and summer is already upon us so I used one of my Ma Ma Osa original patterns for the shorts and the Zina Pattern for the oversized button up to cover my swimsuit. I threw on some flip flops and headed to our closest beach. We looked for a couple bright colored walls along the way just so we could share the fun with all of you by showcasing this print just as it should be with pops of color.
I am very pleased with how easy this fabric is to work with and the comfort of wear. I have already started a second project, a dress for my daughter Amanda in Faille Francesca Perfectly Pale. The biggest challenge you will have with these cotton fabrics will be choosing which floral is your favorite!
