PATTERN REVIEW: Abbey Capris in Midweight Linen
I loved the style and ease of the Abbey Pattern collection so much that I had to do a part 2. This time around, I sewed up the capris in midweight linen and they have become such a welcomed addition to my trans-seasonal wardrobe.
As with the Abbey cardigan that I previously reviewed, I chose the size 8 based on the finished garment measurements. There is plenty of wearing ease in this design so I figured sizing down would be a good option for the fit I was after. There are several bottoms options in this collection: full length pants, capris, or shorts. They all feature a drawstring waist with an elasticized back and two styles of patch pockets. I have a short inseam so I chose to make the capris with the larger patch pockets which are intended for the full length pants option.
These pants came together quite quickly as the construction was very easy and straightforward. No zip fly! No separate waist band! As always, fabrics-store’s booklet of instructions is always a valuable resource during the sewing process, as it provides detailed steps with clear diagrams that are easily digestible.
I like the unique construction of the elastic joined to the drawstrings. The elastic only extends along the back portion of the waist, while the drawstrings are attached at either end of the elastic at the side seams. This makes for a nicely cinched back and less bulk around the entire circumference of the waist. Clever! The double cuff on the hem adds a nice tailored touch to the minimal lines of the pants, and the large patch pockets are just *chef’s kiss*! I like how they lend a cargo-esque level of coolness to the design.
I’ve already integrated these capris into my weekly rotation. They are so comfy to wear and easy to style, especially in this gorgeous new color, Cognac. Another perfect neutral brown, this color has slightly pink/warm undertones and is a complement to the neutral toned palette I’ve been gravitating towards recently. Here, I’ve paired my Abbey Capris with my Sofia Sweetheart Top, a fun pattern by Staystitch Pattern Co. I’m absolutely loving the mixing of these earthy tones together. Now that the temps are finally dropping here in LA, I’m looking forward to pairing these pants with all my me-made chunky sweaters!

Whoa! I bought the Abby pattern for the wonderful shirt. I didn’t even look at the pants but your showcase here really makes them shine. I will definitely make them now. These look so comfy and artsy too. Good job!
