PATTERN REVIEW: Akira Pant in Dusty Lotus Green
We arrived at the lake on Monday evening around sunset. Snowy pine branches swayed in the wind. “I am home”, I thought. I grabbed my grandma’s old sewing machine from the car, the first item I packed for this winter trip to the cabin. The first to be unpacked, too.
This week, I’m working from Alderwood Resort, my favorite set of old-fashioned cabins and a cozy home in the Wisconsin Northwoods. The large brick home sits on the shores of Alder Lake, part of a chain of 10 lakes surrounded by woods and trails. It’s the perfect place for a cozy winter getaway. On my to-do list: drinking coffee by the fire, playing in the snow, and sewing.
The AKIRA Pant in Midweight DUSTY LOTUS linen was my first completed project. I searched for a simple drawstring pant pattern for months and finally landed on this pattern set. I fell in love with the Dusty Lotus green when Fabrics-store first launched it, knowing I wanted to make a pair of pants and a matching linen tank from it someday. Finally, that day arrived and I sewed this beautiful pair of pants on a Tuesday morning next to a frozen lake, snow falling outside my window, a fire crackling, while I dreamed of the summer days when I will be wearing them most.
I’m loving this pattern design for its comfortability and versatility. The wide leg and drawstring closure remind me of pajama pants, in a good way. They are perfect for lounging with a pair of wool socks in these colder months. And, because of the beautiful drape and texture of linen, this design can be easily dressed-up with a sweater, fleece leggings underneath, and boots (my trick to wearing linen in the winter). They truly are a pant that can transition from day to night, which is so important to me living with a capsule wardrobe. The green color is best I have found and reminds me of those snowy white pines that hug the shore of the lakes all over the northwoods. Forever my favorite.
Next on my sewing list is a matching linen tank and the AKIRA jacket in a natural linen to complete this outfit.
That’s all for now. Time to go play in the snow.
Happy sewing,
Morgann
