Warlene Rene styling tips: OASIS Linen draped top worn five ways
In this new series, we are exploring how versatile one item of clothing can be, it is a reminder that we don’t necessarily need to have many clothes in our wardrobes, but instead, we can play and experiment with textures, accessories, stepping out of comfort zones and honouring our bodies and at the same time looking after the planet by not overbuying. This top has been made with FS OASIS Mid weight fabric, if you have questions on how to make it, please leave comments below. The top is perfect for summer and also great for fall layering. The bright earthy Oasis color works all year round.
Here are 5 ways to keep bringing this step to the next level.
Chic work outfit
Serving some fun in the office with this beautiful, draped blouse over leather trousers. To give it a further clean look I added leather ankle boots. For a more balanced and easy going feel, I did not wear too many accessories. It is a strong look but not too overwhelming, just the right balance. This outfit will flatter almost any figure.
Special event ready
Here I’ve paired the top with a floral maxi skirt, it’s perfect for a special occasion. The options to accessorize this look are unlimited. I chose to draw interest to my neckline and the beautiful sleeve by adding a collar necklace, bangles, and statement earrings. Again, this silhouette will work with all figures.
Date night
Wearing the top with jeans gives this outfit a stretch, which is what I love about this look. I chose straight leg jeans for a fun and carefree flare. The straight leg also gives a good balance to the one shoulder sleeve. This style cut works very well for tall/medium height frames. For petit frames I recommend a Capri length or ankle length fitted jean or pant.
Business/meeting ready
I paired the linen top with these linen bell bottoms adds fun but still looks classy. A tied scarf around my waist adds interest and balance between the top and trousers. The feel I get here is business casual.
Cruising the city
I’m just out having fun and making a statement while doing so. These leather shorts paired with the top are so carefree and easy to move around with. Here I could be headed to a cafe, brunch, get together, the fun settings are limitless. Who doesn’t love a good pair of shorts in the summer. I tucked the top in here and belted it which gives it an intentional fitted look but you could as easily leave it out and draped over the shorts for softness.

What a beautiful, versatile top! I absolutely love it and would appreciate a copy of the pattern. Similar to Julia Bowling, I would also be interested in knowing how to find a way to travel with linen to reduce wrinkling!

Hi Phyllis! I’m researching now on releasing patterns. I will keep you updated. I appreciate the positive feedback. The way I travel with linen is I roll it up instead of folding. If it’s a larger piece I fold it in half once, but if you don’t have large enough luggage it may not work. I also invested in a small hand held steamer That I travel with, it’s easy to pack !

I love the Oasis color and I love posts showcasing versatile pieces for endless ensemble dressing options! More please! And I’ll take any ideas anyone has for packing linen pieces for travel without facing a lot of ironing at one’s destination. I’m ok with some wrinkles for a relaxed vacation destination but I once packed a detailed linen dress for a wedding – sadly, never again..
Warlene Rene
Hi Julia, thanks for the nice compliment. The best you can do with packing linen is packing it lightly. If you don’t have a lot of space to spare, pack your heavier items first. Instead of folding your linen, especially if it can’t be folded only once over, roll it up instead and tie gently with a ribbon so it doesn’t come undone. I find there is way less wrinkles that way. I have a mini handheld steamer also that is small and easy to pack. Hope that helps
