PATTERN REVIEW: Akira Cardigan and Capris In Linen
My love for linen and it’s many characteristics are unmatched! When I got the beautiful PEBBLE linen in the mail along with the Akira pattern I was ecstatic. First off, I was amazed by the beauty of the packaging. The pattern is so well put together and clear to understand. I especially love that the instructions are combined in a booklet that is printed in color with clear steps to follow.
The Akira pattern I love because of it’s versatility and how classic it looks. I generally lean towards pieces that are versatile, effortless to wear and are easy to care for. This pattern is that and more. The top has three possible versions and pant 2. It is a perfect pattern for beginners as well. The Akira set really speaks to my style because I love accessories and I love to layer and the cardigan especially is something I could play up. Although winter is fast approaching here in the Boston area, I never put my linen away! I just add it as an extra layer.
I personally love working with linen, it is actually one of the first fabrics I worked with and remains my favorite. Using linen for this cardigan and capri made it that much more enjoyable. Nothing sews, feels, or presses like linen!
I was introduced to the linen at Fabrics-Store.com before my birthday last August and actually used some of their fine linen to drape a gorgeous number from, so I knew what I was in for this time around.
The pattern is very easy to manage and is clear and to the point. I did size up on my cardigan because I wanted to layer with it in the cold weather. I took an extra 2″ off my capris pattern pant because I wanted my boots to show a good amount when I wear them. A winter tip for wearing linen pants is to wear thick leggings underneath! I pre washed my linen in warm water and tumble dried on low. I generally pin all my fabric pieces together, all the ones that can be as I find that I move quicker this way.
I am so happy with the new additions to my pattern collection, fabric, and wardrobe. I am going to love having these pieces in my closet year round!
