Braided Linen Headbands Tutorial
Headbands are no longer an accessory for only little girls. They can be worn no matter what your age is!
In fact, I’d say I need headbands in my life. Not just because they are a cute hair accessory, but because I actually rely on them. I count on my headband to hold my hair back when I wash my face and to keep my hair tucked back at the gym.
Headbands are a stylish way to keep your hair tidy! They are wonderful on days when your hair just simply refuses to cooperate with you. I especially love their retro look and girly charm!
Today, I attempted to make my own braided headband with scraps of linen I had. It was actually really fun and easy! This is also a great way to recycle old pieces oflinen or to use up your scraps from previous projects!
Give this fun idea a try and see!
Materials:
- Piece of linen. This can even be one of your old shirts or anything else!
- Headband
- Scissors
- Hot glue or craft glue
- Needle and thread
Time: 20 minutes
Level: Beginner
Cut your linen into the strips you will be braiding. The strips should be about 2 inches wide. Also, cut one extra piece to wrap around your headband.
The length of each should be slightly longer than that of the the headband This will equal a total of four piece of linen for you to work with.
Start cutting your strips into four equal pieces.
Once you have four strips ready, place three to side until it’s time to braid. We need to cover the headband in linen first.
Begin covering your headband by gluing one tip of your linen to an end of the plastic.
Contiune wrapping your linen around the plastic head band so it is completely covered.
Try to wrap your linen pretty tightly so it does not unravel in the future.
Almost done! This is a really easy step that will only take you about a minute.
Once you have covered the headband, glue your linen to the other end so it stays in place. You can now set your headband aside while we work with the other three pieces of linen.
Before beginning this step, I like to fray the ends of my linen for a more natural look. To do this, just pull at some of the threads. The linen will pull apart at the edges and leave you with a nice rustic appearance.
Line up all of your fray pieces of linen at one end and make a simple stitch.
Nothing fancy! Just something to hold them together while you braid.
Now it’s time to start braiding!
Twist and manipulate the strips as you go to create a more textured braid.
Stitch together the other end of your braid when you are done. Now we just need to put the two pieces together.
All you have to do now is glue your braid onto the headband That’s all there is to it!
Tips:
- Try different colors for different looks.
- You can get creative and braid together different fabrics, such as lace or cotton.
- If the band hurts your head, skip it! Just braid your linen and stitch it together where they meet. This is an even easier way to make a cute headband.I hope you enjoyed this fun craft for beautiful linen headbands.
